Walking in Essex

Ramble Secretarys Report and Future Programme details

RAMBLES SECRETARY'S REPORT

You will see from the programme that we have one Saturday with no leader available and but for Nick’s late intervention, this would have been three. It is relatively easy to get leaders for Wednesday walks but it is becoming increasingly difficult to get leaders for Saturday walks. If we want to continue to offer a full programme of walks, this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

We are delighted to welcome 2 new leaders on a Wednesday that have never led a walk before. We have tried a couple of times, without success, to compile a list of regular walk leaders who will be willing to assist new leaders to plan a walk. Maybe this is a non-starter but we must find ways to encourage more new leaders to come forward. You will see above that there is only one forthcoming event for this programme, namely the Autumn weekend to Woodhall Spa in September. However, you will have seen that invitations to a Christmas lunch and a Spring 2018 weekend have been circulated and I encourage you to respond to these to Cliff Downes before the end of July.

WALK LEADERS PLEASE NOTE: If a walk has to be cancelled at the last minute, the leader should contact the Chairman or Vice Chairman but, if neither is available, then the membership Secretary or then any Committee member so that, if possible, any notification procedures can be invoked. Also, if there is a change to pub facilities as happened recently, you should telephone the Membership Secretary so that an urgent e-mail can be sent out.

Advance Booking to Lead Walks: Don’t forget, you can book a space to lead a walk in advance of the programme being announced. This means that you can book the dates that suit you. The next programme will run from December 2017 to March 2018. Remember, you can see the available dates on our website which will be updated weekly from November onwards.
